This moose hunt takes place in one of the most moose rich environments in all of Alaska. Sandwiched between the Katmai National Park to the south, Lake Clark National Park and Preserve to the north and the Wood River-Tikchik State park to the west, this area is in prime moose habitat and it produces lots of moose with some real giants to boot.

With so much area available to them, not only do they offer the fully outfitted packages, but they are unique in that the also offer "Do It Yourself" (DIY) hunts for those prepared for a self guided hunt in the wild Alaskan bush. The fully outfitted hunts can be scheduled out of their comfortable lodge or a remote tent camp. The DIY camps are separated by many miles of wild country so that hunters will not be affected by the other camps.

Hunters will fly into Illamna on one of the daily commercial flights where they will be met by the outfitter or one of his guides. A scenic one-hour flight (included in the hunt cost) will put you at the lodge or into the remote tent camp. DIY hunters will be flown directly to one of several established camps to begin their hunts.

Since this is a licensed outfitter and not just a transporter, they are able to provide a full camp with the necessary equipment and even a full meal package to the DIY hunters. These hunts just as successful as the fully outfitted hunt but require a lot more effort once a bull huts the ground. Hunters are expected to transport all meat, and antlers back to camp and to be flown out at the conclusion of the hunt.

The average bull taken with this outfitter has averaged in the high 50's to low 60's. There has even been the occasional 70 incher taken. The DIY hunts are also very successful for those hunters prepared for this type of hunt.
