Greenland Fall and Winter Muskox Hunts

GL100XMore from this outfitter

Description

For those tough enough to brave the cold, hunting the worlds largest island, Greenland, for muskox in the winter will put your skills and endurance to the test. Winter muskox hunts take place in March and April when the daily temperatures can dip to -20 degrees. However, these frigid temperatures insure that your muskox will have the best winter coat and will make a fantastic mount. Hunters will leave the cabin on a snowmobile each morning in search of this holdover from the worlds ice ages. Your guide will be well prepared to manage your hunt and insure that it is done safely and that you are successful in harvesting your trophy muskox.

For those not wanting to brave the cold, a fall hunt would be the way to go. These hunts are scheduled for August and September when the temperatures are much more reasonable, typically running in the 30's and 40's. A fall muskox hunt can be done in combination with a Greenland caribou as well. For those that choose to, a helicopter can be employed to reach deeper into the Greenland arctic wilderness areas in search of the best muskox trophies. You can also hunt on foot, ATV and small boat on the lakes and rivers in the area.

Hunts are conducted over a 5-day period with 3 full days of hunting and a travel day on each end. In these 3 days, almost every hunter has been able to take their muskox and many take a caribou as well. Camp on the fall hunts is in a comfortable tent camp set near a lake with the hunting area a short distance away. Winter camp is a comfortable cabin a short distance from town. A several hour snowmobile or ATV ride will be required to reach the hunting area.

Hunters fly into Kangerlussuaq, Greenland where they will be met by the outfitter or one of his guides. From there, they will be taken to a local hotel for the night. In the morning, they will be taken into camp to begin the hunt. On the return trip, they will be taken to the hotel again and then to the airport the next morning.
